The SEC had 44 players on the
NBA's opening weekend rosters.
South Carolina has three alumni in
the NBA, two playing and one
coach. Ryan Stack and Jamie
Watson play for Cleveland and
Miami, respectively. Mike Dunleavy
is the head coach of Portland.

Facing a dual-match format Monday
in its first Region II matches,
the men's tennis team played with determination,
style and great team effort.
The Gamecocks came away with
two decisive wins over UNC Greensboro
and UNC Charlotte.
In their first match, the team faced
UNCG. Sweeping both the doubles
and singles, the Gamecocks finished
with an impressive 7-0 win.
The first doubles team of Jerome
Jourdon and Vladimir Pavicevic defeated
Alex Lenhoff and Tony Mule in
a pro set, 8-3. In other doubles action,
Juan Gamboa and Jeff Bergman posted
an 8-2 win, and Olaf Akesson and
Tomasz Wawrzyniak won 8-1.
The men were equally successful
in their singles matches, with all six
players winning in two straight sets.
Freshman Dave Nelson posted a nearshutout
of UNCG player Cedric LeRouzo,
6-0,6-1.
With the first match taken care of,
the team was in good spirits and looked
forward to match No. 2.
After dinner, the players began the
match against UNC Charlotte. With
the late starting time of 6 p.m., the
coaches agreed to play only one doubles
match and four singles matches.
Mixing up the lineup, USC Head
Coach Kent DeMars had Pavicevic play
first singles and placed Jerome Jourdon
on second singles. Pavicevic lost
his first set 3-6, but rebounded and

Nelson said.

nament of the top 16 teams in the na
tion.
There, the Gamecocks will face No
8 Pepperdine. If they advance, theyT
play the No. 1 team in the nation.
As for their home matches, the
team wants to encourage people to at
tend some matches.
"It's always nice to have people
come out and support you," Bergmar
saia.

Second, I have been called anti-white, anti-Southern,
anti-female, anti-Greek and, worst of all, antiUSC.
I am neither racist nor sexist, and I am definitely
not against this school.
Just because someone has the testicular fortitude
to speak the truth about what's going on at
this university instead of seeing the world through
rose-colored glasses, the person is automatically laheled
anti-IISC
Oh yeah, the other two might or might not be
true. Perception is 70 percent of reality, you know.
Last weekend, David Cloninger (the other USC
student on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List) and
myself had some interesting news brought to our
attention by a friend of ours who's a member of the
oldest, most elite group ever to cheer for Carolina
athletics, the World-Famous Third Base Hecklers.
He had received a letter sent by a relatively
anonymous fan that criticized everything the Hecklers
have done, calling us cowards along the way.
Here is the letter, unedited, spelling mistakes,
subject-verb disagreements and all, and well
see who the real coward is.
