Conservative female

To the editor: (
Knowing that the journalists of '
The Gamecock, namely that grinning
idiot Kurt Johnson, are always being
bashed, I felt that I would sing the
praise of Emily Streyer for her article
on the impending impeachment of
President Clinton. 1
It is refreshing to see a conserva- '<
tive female opinion on the indis- t
crepencies and blatant immorality of f
Clinton that go way beyond illicit sex. r
She points to the fact that America v
has lost focus on moral responsibility i
and on what is expected of one who
sits on Capitol Hill. Former President i
George Bush commented on C-Span 1
that the fact that Clinton even knew i
the name of a White House intern is, I
in itself, inappropriate. 1
But Emily does not stop there. >
She puts emphasis on Clinton's dis- (
honesty and the blatant abuses of 1
power that she names: Filegate, f

Financegate. Her view is encourag- <

Students pay too much
for lab/technology fees
To the editor:
This is a message for all students
lere at USC. Beware! We as full-time
ind part-time students pay entirely
;oo much tuition toward lab
fees/technology fees, for the school
lot to take extra time to decide on
vhat computers are the best for our
noney.
In the computer science departnent
there have been a great deal of
ireakdowns. The computers just will
lot accept Zip disks which the comluter
science courses were told to
iuy, costing $15-$20 apiece. I was
rery disappointed when the other
lay my Zip disk was literally torn up

for my project.
The project itself is 20 to 40 percent.

That's just on the (literally) home
front. There are numerous things
Beasley could do politically to screw
things up for the newly elected goveraor.
Take down the Confederate flag
from the Statehouse. Wow! If that happened,
Hodes would be swamped with
those "proud, rebellious" Southerners,
demanding that thing to be back atop
the dome. He would receive equal pressure
from those who support the flag
being done to keep it down. It would be
quite a headache for el governore.
k will try to print all letters. Letters should be 2)0-300 words and r
i student Hand written letters must be personally delivered by the
telephone number. The Gamecock reserves the right to edit all led
of preparing. I decided to talk to the
Derson in charere. Dr. Oakman. This
is what he had to say: "Well, what do
you want me to do about it? I'm quite
sure there are more people upset
than just you, but they are not up
here complaining."
I thought to myself, maybe if my
skin had not been so dark compared
to his, he could have sympathized a
little more. To answer his question, I
told him, "I'm pretty sure you're
right! There are more people upset,
just not as bold as I am to speak out!"
So as you see there is a problem
with the computer science lab computers,
but there is an even bigger
problem with the board in charge,
that's not doing anything about it.

Internet porn column
degrading towards men
To the editor:
I would like to respond to Ms. McCormick's
article "Examining Men's
Lust for Teenage Girls," (11-6-98).
First of all, I would like to admit that
1 am a 2U year old male and l enjoy
some forms of pornography. However,
this fact does not in anyway make
me "lost," or "need help." I have a
steady girlfriend of five years and we
have a very stable, safe, and productive
relationship.
It appears to me that Ms. McCormick
has made a host of assumptions
completely devoid of fact. In her
article, her male friend "Brian" happened
to enjoy looking at certain internet
sites that featured young (or
younger-looking) females.
This in no way infers that all
males enjoy looking at this material.
Am I to assume after reading this article
that all females are disgusted
and resentful towards the porn industry?
She bases all of her arguments on
the alleged "fear of intimidation" that
men harbor against women. This
may be true for some, but I can tell
you that the vast majority of people
nk we are capable of playnuch
better then we did."

Another funny thing would be if
Signor Beasley decided to secede South
Carolina from the Union, again (I know
that wouldn't happen without legislative
consent, but use your imagination
people, come on!). He could declare the
new country "The Republic of South
Carolinian People," "Beasley-land," or
"Used to Be a Part of the U.S.A. But
Now Not, So There!" (exclamation mark
included for emphasis). We would probably
get weekly updates on Hooges from
the insane asylum, for water-cooler chat
purposes.
Now, I know Beasley is a Christiantype
guy, and his morals would never
allow any such thoughts to cross his
freakin' conservative mind, so I doubt
anything like this would happen.
That, and it might take some time
to import bushmen to inhabit his front
lawn. I didn't get mine until four months
after I ordered them.
hum Include full name, phone number, professional title or

(men and women) who view pornographic
material do it to get a quick
sexual kick, not because they want to
feel powerful, in control, or view pictures
that "won't make them feel
worse about themselves." There is little,
if any, political motivation.
I agree that pornography should
not be a substitute for dating, but it
can be a safe alternative for promiscuous
sex, and even an augmentation
to already to enhance their own love
making.
Also, Ms. McCormick neglects to
mention that other types of pornography
are on the market. Not only is
there the teen porn to which she
refers, but there are also thousands
upon thousands of other sites that
feature older men and women, overweight
men and women, and countless
others fetishes.
Somehow, she concludes that because
her friend "Brian" accessed
particular sites, all guys look at these
sites, and all for the same reason (a
reason that she apparently plucked
from the air. The connections she
makes are ill-founded and are obviously
due to her own sexual hang-ups
and bitterness).
I admit that on average men view
pornographic material more often
than women, but this is because men
are admittedly more visually stimulated
than women. Why do you think
women read more romance novels
than men? It's just a different mean
to met the same end: to get a little
sexual excitement and varietv into
one's life.
Ms. McCormick, if you are going
to write something as sexist and degrading
as your last article, at least
take the time to research the facts instead
of making such broad assumptions
based on your personal speculations.
Women are just as infatuated
with younger men. If you doubt this
go see How Stella Got Her Groove
Back or The Graduate. These are but
two films, out of many, that deal with
this theme.
