By now you have probably figured out that this less than joyful experience is none other than going to see the blockbuster movie, SpiceWorld, no excuse me, Titanic. Regnier r | staff writer WILLIAM FOLKS It's a cold Friday in February, and Celine Regnier is just glad to get her pull-over back on. The Gamecock Women's Tennis team has been through a tortuous afternoon of outdoor photo shoots, and it seems that now, at long last, the photographers have gotten enough shots of the girls in their hot (but very, very short-sleeved) new black Reebok uniforms. > Thefc U! ? It took me until Friday night to go and watch this movie, and to my great surprise it was actually a good flick. If not for my coolest friend Charlotte's pleading with me to go to the movie, I may have never discovered this. But as I sat down for this movie, knowing that I wouldn't be getting up for a while, I fully expected to be bored out of my wits for the next three hours. But something happened. I actually enjoyed this movie. I went to the thing, not sure what to expect and came back with a new favorite movie, all because I decided to try something different. Then I figured why in the world couldn't I use this experience for the betterment of my university? "Playing at the No. 1 position is hard because you've got to be at your best for eveiy match. If you just play for yourself, it won't happen. You may win some matches but when it gets tough, you're in trouble." I thought about my feelings before and after watching Titanic and you know it isn't the first time I have had a similar experience. I went through something very similar my freshman year atUSC. My comfort zone at the movies is best served by going to watch movies like SpiceWorld and Caddyshack (my personal favorite). My comfort zone as far as sports used to be football and basketball. After that I never had the desire or time to try anything new. But when I came to USC and started working for the newspaper, something happened. I had an awakening much like the one I had Friday night at the movies. That awakening I had two years ago led me to just try and go to a baseball, women's basketball, or softball game. It led me to see what volleyball and swimming is all about. And you know what I found out? I think I had more id women that saw her go 18-12 with a winning record in the always challenging SEC. But it's not just her tennis skills that are showing improvement. A native of LeMans, France, Regnier's arrival at Carolina two and a half years ago was her first trip abroad, anywhere. She's had to adapt much more than just her tennis game to get comfortable "living in America." lments particif Tonight progra Roc A TURN pr m or to receive your FREE me ims at 777-6688, or stop by th st wing of the Russell House. ay change due to )epartment of Education, )RTS imecock n to go VI to fun at those events than at the big time events like football and basketball. Football and, to a lesser extent, basketball are big parties for the fan, and let's face it you gotta get a little love from "Jack" to be able to stomach those losses at Williams-Brice. But the Olympic Sports are really a lot of fun. You are always up close to the athletes as they perform because most of the venues are very small. And being upclose you can really see the will and the desire of these young men and women because they aren't playing for the chance to move to the pros. They are playing because they are talented and love the game. So in short, if Charlotte could con vince me to go and see Titanic even though I thought it would bore me half to death, then you can go and see an Olympic Sport (softball and women's basketball are my favorites) this semester. Who knows, you might even like it. Goodness knows if I liked Titanic, anything can happen. i's tennis ii : 'It was tough at first," she said "Obviously, I've still got this incredible accent.
