New art department chairman appointed
The College of Liberal Arts has named Robert
F. Lyon of Auburn University as chairman of the
art department. Before joining Auburn's art department
as chairman in 1995, Lyon was an art professor at
Louisiana State University. He has held prestigious
artist-in-residence positions at the Sculpture Space
Inc. in Utica, N.Y., the Banff Center in Alberta,
Canada, and the Kohler Company in Kohler, Wis.
He is the recipient of a Visual Artists Fellowship in
Sculpture by the National Endowment fgr the Arts

USC Showcase to celebrate 10th anniversary
USC will hold its 10th annual USC Showcase
from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. April 12 on the Horseshoe.
USC Showcase is the university's open house, which
shares the best and brightest of USC's programs,
faculty and students with the community. Highlights
will include research such as the S.C. Institute of
Archaeology and Anthropology discovery of Charlesfort,
public services like the Writing Center and the
Palmetto Poison Center, and cultural performances
by the popular Carolina Alive and the USC Dance
Company.

The thunder of hoofs will echo over the crowds
at Springdale Race Course April 12, but the night
before, the beat of the drum and guitar will resound
over the original townsite of Camden for Rockin'
Horse 97. An evening of great entertainment will
be held in front of the Kershaw-Cornwallis House
at the Historic Camden Revolutionary War Site.
The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with the bluesy duo
Cain Savannah, followed by Q-Sign, Thomas Flyer
and Robins Cradle. Admission is $5. Call 432-9841
