Ifen years ago, high school
students sweated getting into
an undergraduate program.
Nowadays, high school seniors
could nap their way through
the SATs and still somehow
make it into an accredited
% college. We are part of the time
when getting into a university,
Ivy league withheld, is easy,
especially compared to the
gnashing of teeth our parents
went through.
This time, the wailing and
nail-biting is reserved for
graduate, law and medical

degrees being an all-too
common occurrence, Master's

to be competitive in today's job
market.
One part of admissions to
graduate school seems to be
the trickiest, especially to those
considering themselves
humanities-impaired. Students
applying to grad school know
the essay is a way to prove
^ necessary language and
communication skills.
If an applicant cannot
clearly express herself in
written form, an application's
potential for acceptance is
diminished.
The pressure of needing a

the pressure by offering a
selection of essays to different
graduate, law and medical
schools, for a minimal fee, of
course, to essay-anxious
applicants. The intention is to
give applicants a guide as to
what kind of writing is accepted
by some of the top graduate
schools in t.ho nation
The reality is students are
going to plagiarize.We know
that somewhere out there in
Cyberspace, some idiot is going
to click a mouse, sign an
agreement not to plagiarize,
and then send in an already
accepted essay to another
school under her/his name.
These people are moronic.
If caught plagiarizing, this
action could do some serious
damage to a student's
reputation in the academic
world. Forget about trying to
apply to another school. If
Smith University in preppy
New England throws out an
application due to plagiarism,
rest assured Jones University
in California will hear of it and
throw out the same applicant.
IvyEssays has a good
intention, but the reality is
their business makes
plagiarizing all too easy.
Hopefully, the majority of
students will act responsibly
and use the service correctly.
For the others who don't, we
laugh at your folly.

ject for all
Can these parents not
control their own children? Do
they need the help of the federal
government to do something
that should come quite
naturally?
It's very easy. Tfell your kids
that certain sites are off-limits,
and that's that.
But taking indecent pictures
off the Internet is not going to
keep children innocent forever.
There things out there, very
real dangers?they're called
drugs, guns and sexual
molestation.
If Rice and her counterparts
wish to truly help the nation's
children, their efforts are needed
for for more serious issues than
whether or not pronorgraphy
is allowed on the Internet.
Focus on life-threatening
problems, not pictures on the
Internet.
And if all else fails,
remember?shut it down.

Dnspired by Jimmy Bufifett,
I took off to Key West for
Spring Break to get out of
Columbia for a while and relax in
the Caribbean sun. Key West is
known for it's laid back, fun loving
atmosphere, and I figured that there
was no better place to go to forget
about school for a while.
Key West is a place that any one
can go and be themselves. Prejudice
is not welcome because everyone is
embraced by the town and people
are able to put away their differences
for a while. For the biggest priority
in the Conch Republic is having fun.
I came from the northern
mainland to forget about classes and
assignments that I have not yet
started. But when I got to Key West,
I was not able to forget about school
because it seemed like the University
of South Carolina had launched a
full-fledged invasion of the Conch
Republic.

I saw USC hats or shirts. Many o!

the people who were wearing USC
attire were not even students. It
seems as though many people from
across the country has jumped on
our bandwagon.
There were many actual students
down there however, and we seemed
to share a special fellowship that I
have never experienced before. In
the Margaritaville Cafe, Hard Rock
Cafe, Sloppy Joe's, and down at
Mallory Square, I met USC students
whom I have never met before. We
all felt like bad-asses walking around
down there.
We owe this to our basketball
team of course, who has given us a
season of excitement that USC hasn't
known in nearly a quarter of a
century. I was a Gamecock fan long
before I began attending school here.

Packer fan had a truly special feeling
when their team won it all, the same
feeling that all the loyal Gamecock

One night when I was down there,
I took a sunset cruise on a huge
catamaran called the Sebago. It was
$22.00 for the two-hour cruise and
all the beer you could drink. It just
so happened that about half the
people on board this particular cruise
were from Carolina. As the evening
drew on, and the beer flowed freely,
we began to do the "Game Cocks"

Bystanders who were not fans

Singletonian philosophy #11:

The night of Feb. 4 will live forever

Singletonian philosophy #17:
Why do men find lesbianism sexy?
This seems to be a double standard
to me for I think it all sucks, but
that's my gender, I guess.
Last but not least, there is one
more tenet of Singletonian philosophy
that I live by just as much as #9, and
that is number 25.
Money makes the world go
around. People will kill, steal, sell
their bodies, as well as their souls
for it. An unattractive man cannot
get a beautiful woman without it.
A nnmmnn nprann cannot pet
justice in a court of law without it.
Marriages break up because of it.
"Love" doesn't pay bills; money does.
Money is power and power is money.
Everyone has a price. Anyone who
says they aren't for sale just hasn't
been offered enough.
These are opinions based on what
I have seen and experienced in my
short lifetime. I could be wrong but
nothing has happened as of yet to
prove me wrong.

twist. If you find yourself agreeing
