Carolina repi at SEC Chair STAFF REPORTS At the SEC Indoor Track and Held Championships in Gainesville, Fla., both the men and wdmen finished in fourth place. Sophomore All-American Brad Snyder won his third SEC shotput title in as many tries. Snyder won the championship with a throw of 62-3 3/4. Teammates Kevin Mannon was third in the shot at 61-1/4. Sophomore Jeff Shalayda was sixth at 57-0. "I'm very happy," Snyder said. This is a lot more intense than last year. I wish I could have thrown farther but a win is a win." Mannon won the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 69-6 3/4. Teammate Ryan Harrison finished in third place at 64-11 1/4. Sophomore Bert Sorin was fourth with a personal best of 64-10 3/4. Junior Marvin Watts won the 800-meter title with a time of 1:49.60. Senior All-American Corey Ridges was second in the 55 meters at 6.25. Freshman Jamie Price finished fifth at 6.37. Shattering the school record, Riian Dempers was third in the 400 meters at 47.63. In USC women's action, Carolina sent three throwers to the finals of the shot put and finished two,three and four. Junior Ail-American Crystal Brownlee was second with a toss of 54-6 1/2. Junior All-American Lisa Misipeka was third with a throw of 53-3 1/2 and senior All-American Dawn Ellerbe finished fourth at 528. Sophomore Erin Narzinski finished sixth in the long jump at 19-113/4. Her mark broke the school record. Ellerbe won the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 68-8. It is Ellerbe's fifth SEC title. Misipeka finished second at 63-101/4. Browniee Hou March 1! Junior Charmaine Howell placed secondfh the 800 meters with a time of 2:07.61. Junior Tonique Williams was fourth in the 400 meters at 54.28. The women's 4X400 relay team of LaRae Gray, Deanna Smith, Howell and Williams finished fourth with a time of 3:40.01. The relay time is a new school record and one of the Top 10 in the country this year. Swimming and Diving The men's and women's Swimming and Diving teams duplicated last year's SEC .Championship effort with a seventh place and eighth place finish this year, respectively. The 25th-ranked Carolina men posted a 265 final score while the Lady Gamecocks scored a 212. Freshman Rae Abbott finished seventh in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke and junior Susie Stark swam into eighth place in the same event. Jessica Nixon turned in ninth and 10th place finishes in the 100yard breaststroke and 100-yard backstroke, respectively. Mike Reynolds completed the 1,650-yard freestyle in sixth place. Freshman diver Chad Seldon finished the one-meter diving competition in fourth place and finished in seventh place on the threemeter board. Junior John Bruenning finished fifth in the 400-yard individual medley with a personal best 3:55.14. In relay events, Carolina finished in fourth place in the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:39.12. The shot of the day was once again off the bat of Mike Curry, who hit a rocket in the second inning well over the right field wall. The homerun was the fifth by Curry in ten games this season.
