"They are very, very good," USC
head coach Eddie Fogler said.
The game is a rematch of j
Carolina's 82-71 victory over UGA
Jan. 18 at Frank McGuire Arena.
In that game, the Gamecocks
broke a defensive battle by shooting ,
59.1 percent from the field in the
second half.
Carolina was down as much as

Larry Davis had 22 points, going

But this time it went be that easy.
USC will face a much-improved
Bulldog team that will be playing in
a hostile home environment.
"From what Fve heard, it's a hard
place to play," freshman Herbert Lee

We're going to go down there with

McKie said.

teams met in January, UGA was
ranked No. 21.
At 17-5 overall and 11-0 in the
SEC, the Gamecocks can seal a firstround
bye in the SEC Tournament
and break the school record for most
consecutive victories in one season.
A win would be USC's sixth road
SEC victory, matching the number
the Gamecocks tallied in their first
five years in the SEC.
For the Gamecocks to be
successful, they must be able to
handle the tough Georgia defense.
UGA holds opponents to 63.6
points per game and only 37.5 field
goal percentage (first in SEC).
"It's going to be extremely tough
to play on the road," McKie said, "but
I don't see any reason why we can't
accept the challenge and go out and
perform like we're capable of playing."

The 1980 s may have been the

Last Monday, the Basketball Hall

own in Alex English.
In fifteen years in the NBA,
English, the Gamecocks' all-time
leading scorer, scored over 25,000
points.
Also, he led the Denver Nuggets
to nine playoff appearances in his
career and scored 2000 points eight
amsecutive times, stiU an NBA record.
However, what impressed me the
most about the induction of Alex
English was that they inducted a

In 1983, the Jets took Ken O'Brien
in the first round of the draft. Six
quarterbacks later, some guy out of
Pittsburgh was picked by the Miami
Dolphins. I think he did pretty well.
O'Brien, however, retired after the
1993 season, going 0-4 in playoff
rames.
Two years later, they took wide
eceiver A1 Toon in the first round.
Six picks later the San Francisco
19ers took some wide receiver out
>f Mississippi Valley State and I
lont know what became of him. Tocm
vould retire after the 1990 season
ifter having too many concussions.
hi 1990, those mentally challenged
lets picked Blair Thomas in the first
mind. Fifteen picks later, the Dallas
Convicts picked.... you guessed it.
Blair Thomas is now out of football
ifter an unsuccessful stint with the
Carolina Panthers.
To make a long story short, it is
gainfully obvious that the Jets don't
mow how to draft players, or at least
hose who can actually play football.
