Lady Gamecocl ACHIM HL1YT Sports Editor For one half of the women's game, the idea of two upsets in one day for Carolina basketball was alive and well. The leftover crowd of529 from the men's game saw the Lady Gamecock basketball team fight with the Arkansas Lady Razorback team for all they could get. Started in the fall of 1996, the field was pushed outward to make room for the 1,000 seat stadium. After a new outfield and infield were in place, construction began on the 500 concrete seats and the dugouts. The project is about 50 percent complete, and the stadium should be ready on time for the Lady Gamecock's Feb. 14 opener against the University of Virginia. Compton said the new stadium should be more conducive for the fans and players.
