The first team currently has a record of 3-3, posting wins against Duke, The Citadel, and St. Andrews College. The B team is off to a 5-1 start, defeating Duke, The Citadel, Georgia Southern, St. Andrews College, and Charleston. The club is scheduled to play in the prestigious Mardi Gras Tournament on February 8, 1997. use BODYBUILDING & FITNESS CLUB proper weight training techniques plus safe and beneficial use of weight equipment; aid the understanding of the mind and body in balance and the importance of aerobic exrest in conjunction with weight training, then look no further than the bodybuilding and fitness club. Club membership on only $15 for 12 months, and it entitles members to free entries to bodybuilding shirt, and free or reduced cost field trips. Washington Gymnasium on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:00 pm, and on Saturdays at 2:00 pm. The club practices both throwing and grappling techniques, as well as randori, or free practice. In addition to fighting, judo teaches respect for others and efficiency in all your actions and thoughts. Currently, the club is preparing for shiai (contact) and kata (forms) competition to be held in Fayetteville, North Carolina on December 14 at Camp Lejeune. This trend is evident here on the USC campus as well. i ne men s soccer ciuu is cun ciuiy uusy lining up matches against regional teams, and will play during the spring semester in a 40 team tournament in Clemson in March. The club is open to all interested students, but only a limited number of spaces remain on the team. Contact the Office of Campus Recreation for more info. ITS CLL HINES EARLY The Rugby Club hosts and travels to regional rugby matches throughout the school year. Rugby involves running, tackling, kicking, teamwork, and learning the game's simple rules and traditions. The club practices on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm on PE Center Field F. If you would like additional information about the club, contact the Office of Campus Recreation at 777-5261. dtlDUKAW Seidokan Aikido is a non-violent art of self defense. Students practice blending their movements with those of an attacking partner. The basic movements include stepping off the line of force, leading the partner off balance, and dropping the attacker to the mat. Students learn basic principles to coordinate mind and body, applying these in both throwing and rolling. The club also works with the wooden staff, sword, and knife to develop a better understanding of th blending movements underlying empty hand techniques. The club meets on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:00 - 6:30 pm in the Booker T. Washington Gym. Interested studetns and staff are welcome to drop by anytime to watch a practice session. Demonstrations are held at the beginning of each semester. No previous experience is required, and students are eligible IBS II WORLDTAE m vwANrui Entering its ninth year on the USC campus, the World Tae Kwon Do club practices traditional Korean martial art of Tae Kwon Do. This includes basics, forms, 3-step and non-contact, free style sparring. The sport promotes increased flexibility, improves strength and endurance, as well as greater concentration, self-esteem, and self-control. The club practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 -9:00 pm in the Booker T. Washington gymnasium. In January, the club will host the seventh annual USC tournament, and in March will travel to Isle of Palms, SC for the Southeast Regional Tournament. The club is accepting new students, no experience is necessary. AMERICAN KARATE CLUB The Karate Club practices kicking, punching, and blocking techniques along with katas, self-defense, and cardiovascular exercises. The club meets on Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:45 pm, and again on Sundays at 7:00 pm. The club recently hosted a collegiate level tournament involving 10 universities, and USC finished first overall. In addition to their own tournament, the club travels to North Carolina, Virginia, and throughout South Carolina for tournaments.
