It is great we have a professor here who believes strongly about his beliefs and is willing to run few office so he can make a change. All my clothes had the overwhelming urge to fly into said suitcase, it being the center of a vortex and all. That was a personal and private thing for a family, and here is all of America thinking it was funny or something. How distasteful. And it really bothers me that when somebody wears their hair funny or puts on unusual clothes, people just have all these "funny" remarks to make. People just have to be able to say something sometimes. It's really rude and wrong to talk about anybody in a humorous way or to try and make light of a serious situation. People making all kinds of commentary about the presidential election, trying to make such an important occurence funny, is inexcusable. Actually, now that I think about it, itfs wrong for anyone to express an opinion about anything. If you express your opinion about something, you might hurt somebody's feelings. Or, worse, somebody might not agree with you. When I think about all the people I've hurt by writing cruel comments about Dole, the Clintons and the Macarena, I feel really sad I mean, what was I thinking to try and be so all-fired humorous? The horror, the horror! standard, car someone chop away at my already-short hair while I had no say in the matter, and get lost, raped, mugged or murdered somewhere in between all that. Needless to say, I was none too thrilled. I learned something the next afternoon: I can navigate around Atlanta's Hartsfield Airport and New York's La Guardia International Airport quite well by myself. I also learned hailing a taxi is not difficult. However, parting with $25 for the cab fare is - especially when all one can think about is what a great CD said money would have bought you. New York surprised me so many more times that weekend. It was as if I was four years old and the world was new to me again. For one thing, it is beautiful. The architecture is not skyscraper, skyscraper, skyscraper, but rather gothic cathedral, historic hotel, a bit of neon Vegas, glass buildings, cafes, clubs, and homeless people stuck in between the corners to fill up all the spaces. One does not need an ID in NYC. That is, if one is a female traveling with e ** 1 1 i r a group or proiessionai moaeis irom Minneapolis who seem to get whatever they want. Instead, I tried to make people laugh, and that was ignorant at best and just plain dumb at worst. People don't want to laugh. They want to sit around and ponder things in a considerate manner. Well, maybe that's what they do other places. Here there are so many comedy clubs, comedians and comedic television programs that I can't help but assume that some people, perhaps the rude, unruly sort, actually enjoy this kind of ^ ucuaviui. It's almost like humor helps us to put things in perspective, helps us look at things in a different way, even helps us to laugh at ourselves. Crazy, isn't it? Somehow watching Seinfeld unfold the wonders of snot, farts and bowel movements allows us to transcend the disgusting reality of these things. Actually, like snot, farts, and bowel movements, humor is a part of being a human being. If you can't laugh at yourself a little, go join your cousins, the apes. (Although that's an unfair statement Apes obviously have a great sense of humor judging from their forehead-slapping, raspberry. giving antics.) i be found ir being friendly in the North is not entirely true. A friend and I got somewhat lost when trying to find a particular club and asked some strangers directions. This is where the raped, mugged or murdered part should have come in, but it didn't. Instead, the guys said they were going that way anyhow if we would like to come with them. Southern courtesy hasn't topped that yet, and I got a new e-mail buddy but of it. The work wasn't so bad either. Granted I had to get up at an hour that should be illegal, but hey, all I had to do was sit and walk. When I was sitting, I was very nearly sleeping, and when I was walking, lights were going off all over the place and the crowd was applauding. Not a bad stroke for a little Southern ego. As I flew back to Columbia, I realized I can tack up New York as one of those "Life Experiences that Smacks You with an Epiphany" events. Yes, it turned out to be fun, but il was not particularly over-easy to work with such gorgeous women. Yeah, I lead such a tough life. But seriously, it made me very aware of my own shortcomings. I figured oui fast that in order to survive in the modeling world, you have to be stunning I'm not. As I was caught in Tm going the hell home because ifs almost five" traffic the other day, I realized how absurd it was for us to sit in our cars and glare at each other until we got home. I mean, it was funny. Instead of staying at work a few extra minutes to miss the traffic, we'd all rather sit in traffic glaring at each other for a while. But I think ifs hard for some people to see the humor in life. Ifs stupid that we refuse to eat dog or horse meat, but we think cow butt (i.e. hot dogs) are delicious. Ifs nuts that we work our asses off all week long in order to become oblivious at some bar on the weekends. Ifs crazy that we have magazines containing both articles about a positive body image and thinner thighs in thirty days. There's a lot out there thaf s funny if you stop to think about it. If you don't have a sense of humor or, sorry for the redundancy, you're British, I feel for you. i individuality because I allow my personality to surpass whatever pleasing physical traits I may have. I am a real person, and the realness about me is what is beautiful. The silent-lipped women I met were chisled, polished, plastic and not a bit interesting. They strutted their stuff down that runway like they owned the joint. They tossed about their heads of hair and made men turn to shoot and stare. That was perfect for the show. But, I found I liked the woman who read her book in between takes better. I enjoyed the company of the girl who cried for 45 minutes because she hated the way her hair turned out, and I comforted her in true feminine fashion. We went shopping. The girls who were real people were , the more interesting. That made them more lovely to me. I hope that all the women reading this are secure in their own individual I beauty. Six foot blondes with doe-eyes gets boring after a while. 5"2' is beautiful, too. Asian, Latino, t and black are beautiful. The array of colors found in skin and hair are all wonderful.
