USC played sloppy football in their 25-14 victory against the Wildcats, but, nonetheless, it was a victory. This was much needed for Carolina to have any hopes of going to a bowl game this year. That was a big win for our program," Head Coach Brad Scott said after the game. "I told our kids in the locker room that for the past two weeks we had played pretty good, but we had lost Yet tonight, we came out and didn't play so well early in the ball game, but we won." The task at hand Saturday will be tougher. Although the Hogs have a 2-3 record, their defense will prove to be a challenge for the USC offense. "Arkansas is a very physical football team. A win tonight would make it two in a row. The Lady Gamecocks enter tonight's contest with SEC-rival Georgia trailing the overall series 20-2. So why is two in a row such a big deal? Last season's victory was the first over Georgia since 1978 and Kim Hudson's only win over the Lady Bulldogs as Carolina's head coach. Hudson will be the first to express the feelings going into tonight's match. "We've been waiting for this match all year. I love to play Georgia, and these kids love to play Georgia," Hudson said. "We're excited. We're really excited." The match is promising for Carolina. The team is 14-4 on the season, including 5-1 in the SEC, its best conference start ever. He is averaging 5.1 yards per carry. In five out of six games, Staley has rushed at least 100 yards. The only time he failed to reach triple digits was against Auburn when he rushed 99 yards. Something has to give in this battle. The key to Carolina's success against the Arkansas defense will be to complete the short passes. Look for Carolina's trying the screen passes to Staley and fullback Steve Mixon. Staley and Mixon have been lethal targets coming out of the backfield. They have together 34 receptions for 409 yards. If the Gamecocks can get the passing attack working, the Razorbacks will have back at \ natch aga 3-3 mark. Their 1-5 SEC record includes five straight losses, four of them at home. Carolina is led by junior Heather Larkin, who is hitting .315 on the season and averaging 4.08 kills per game in conference play. Larkin's hitting percentage and 225 kills are team highs. Sophomore Ashley Edlund and freshman Fe Laires also promise to be factors in tonight's match. Edlund has recorded 783 assists this season, leads the SEC in assists per game (14.76) and is third in digs per game (3.94). Hudson said she has been pleased with the way Edlund has led the team. "She is starting to develop into a fine leader, and thafs exciting for the coaches," Hudson said. Center Paul Beckwith is out witH a sprained ankle and knee. Sophomore Jamar Nesbit will move over from left i tackle to the snapping chores. Look for either Andray Spearman or Reggie Baker at tackle. They are led by freshman Rebecca Dady, whojs hitting .314 with 321 kills. Hudson is feeling good about the Lady Gamecocks' chances tonight. The Razorback running game features a formidable duo: tailbacks Oscar Malone and Chrys Chukwuma ranked fifth and , sixth in the SEC, respectively. Eubanks has caught 30 passes for 508 yards and three TDs in just five games. "This might be the most physical offensive line that we play this year. They make their living running the football although they have one of the leading receivers in the conference," Scott said. "They will throw the football, but you're going to have to be able to stop the running game if you're going to have the chance to beat them." The Gamecock defense has been solid against the run of late and will have to continue. The problem is they have double the trouble this week in stopping two talented backs. If the Razorbacks are able to run all over the Gamecock defense, USC could be in for a long day. Whoever is QB, they must be able to move the offense.
