16 USC alumm at McKissicl STAFF REPORTS Pbrk meets whimsy in Manning artist Tarleton Blackwell's ''Hog Series," a collection ot drawing and paintings that will be on display beginning Aug. 18 at the University of South Carolina's McKissick Museum. The series portrays hogs in various human situations, with references often made to the masterworks of art, cartoons and fairy tales. The exhibition will be on display through Dec. 16. Blackwell, A USC alumnus, says the series is related directly to the series of works by Diego Velaquez (1599-1660), who depicted jesters and dwarves in King Phillip IVs court. "Velazqeuz portrayed his subjects as equal to their master. I have tried to portray hogs with equal dignity and respect while, at the same time, revealing and sharing some of my past personal experiences of life in the rural Southeast," Blackwell said. ? cv?r WHY GE Join City Onlim [ Cal {v*-ji. | How | } Mwd | t>a- j Opt | Fix | fa r - ' - ' - ^ - .- r ~ ' jfj.
