4 > The 'G You may not want to think about it, but it's what every woman should know. TAWA DIQIROLAMO Staff Writer The gynecologist Ooooo. Its almost an unspoken word, barely in anyone's vocabulary. Appointments are often kept secret, for fear that someone might think something is wrong with you since you're going. Unfortunately, many women don't think there is a need to have yearly gynecologist visits. But the truth is, these regular check-ups could save your life. There are three major things that the gynecologist checks for. First, you are given a breast exam. The doctor feels around the entire breast in a circular motion with her fingers. This checks for lumps or irregularities in the breast tissue which could be cancerous. Gibson explained that blood at the national center is for the U.S., in cases where we have our own nat I ' word cells are then sent off to the lab ? to be tested for cervical cancer. Thirdly, a pelvic exam is done. In this procedure, the doctor places her fingers inside the vagina to feel the ovaries, checking for irregularities such as ovarian cysts. Gynecologists do many other kinds of tests besides these, such as tests for sexually transmitted diseases. But at a routine visit, the breast exam, the Pap Smear, and the pelvic exam are common.
