Are vitamins and i
hyped up to be,
another scapego;
TARA DIGIROLAMO Staff Writer
Most people, when
asked, will tell you
that they should be
eating a balanced diet,
but no one really knows exactly
what a balanced diet consists of.
The term is vague and often
leaves people confused. But the
fact is, the guidelines for good nutrition
and a balanced diet are quite
simple and require, in most cases,
only moderate changes in current
eating habits. But if it is so simple
to follow a few guidelines, then
why is the American population
still so malnourished?
Today's lifestyle contributes to
bad eating habits. Everyone's always
on the go, therefore we are
always eating fast food. No one
seems to have time for a family sitdown
dinner. And even though we
are more health-conscious in the

more overweight then ever. Why?
Because we crash diet and try all
the gimicks to lose weight, when
all we realty need to do is eat a more
balanced diet.
The fact of the matter is we are
not eating a balanced diet. And
even though nutritionists recommend
a balanced diet rather than
a vitamin-mineral supplement, it
seems impossible in today's world
to get our daily nutrient needs
through the food that we eat. So,
why not take a pill?
Because vitamin-mineral supplements
are a multibillion dollar
industry, it has people talking that
we really don't need them and that
it is all a money-making scam. Advertising
promotes so many differ^special/;
