This is a test of the Cinematic Warning
System. The reviewer, in voluntary
cooperation with federal, state and local
authorities, has developed this test
, . in the case of a bad film. If this had been
a good film, the stars awarded would
k v|gg|?g& have been followed by news of good acting,
story and dialogue.
But I cannot contain my disdain for
the dreadful new pseudo-thriller called
| "Outbreak," an overblown flick that
wamer Brothers spreads its pretentious drama like an
3utbreak." infectious disease on an unwilling audience.
This film should have been at least
______ an adequate action film by Director Wolfgang
Peterson, who delivered the incredible
"In the Line of Fire." And the
cast is full of high-caliber actors, in

One would expect Hoffman to ris
above the material, but he stands alon
on the front line, spewing dialogue sue
as "I hate this bug!" He even takes o
the qualities of "The Beastmaster" as h
stares into a vent, and all of a sudde
the camera shows us that he can pee
through intricate, winding chambers t
realize, as his lips decidedly express, "It
airborne!"
Hoflman is completely unbelievabl
as the ex-husband of Russo's characte
and becomes increasingly annoying i
his stubborn quest for justice. "Outbreak
contains moments in which his chara<
ter could have been bumped off to in
prove the storyline.

subjected to playing lip service to line

n The film is full of easy answers to
crisis situations, culminating ui peniaps
0 the most unbelievable act ever adming
istered by military personnel.
e One sequence is particularly fitting
;r as the patrons of a movie theater disn
cover they have become quite sick. Al?
though your local theater might not come
> equipped with a medical crew or mad,
l~ hysterical crowds, remember that "Outbreak"
is only a test of your endurance
