Bed, beat LUCY ARNOU) Staff Writer Spring break ? the one week of the year when waves of college students go wild and head for the beaches, while others hibernate until school starts again. From March 3 to March 12, USC will empty as students spread out to the far corners of the earth ? those corners with beaches, that is. Sophomore Tamekia Taylor will be heading south next week. "Rrst, Fm going to West Palm Beach," she said. "We might take a day and just drive down to Fort Lauderdale and see what's going on down there." How will spring breakers keep busy in sunny Florida? "We want to go bungee jumping," Taylor said. "I want to do that boogie board thing. I want to check out all the clubs ?basically, hang out in Florida and meet guys." Another student who will be visiting the Sunshine State next week is senior Melanie Springs. "Our whole (five class is going to Clearwater, Fla.," Springs said. "Well be diving four times a day." Other students will be using spring break as an educational experience, too. Mental illness has \ Withdrawal from social act! "I'm going to France," junior Beth ^ Gray said. "A friend of mine has a friend H over there, so we're going to visit. We're V going to go to Nice for a day, and then we're going to Paris for a day. We're going to look at museums and cafes, and hopefully it'll be warm enough to go to the beach." The more sleep conscious students may be hanging out at the home front instead, enjoying the benefits of real I food, rest and maybe a doting parent or two. These will the students rolling their beach bumming roommates out of bed next Monday. "I'm not doing anything but working," junior Lashaune Smith said. "The two days I'm off, I'm resting, sleeping as late as I want and doing anything I want." "Doing anything I want" is the key phrase here. Take notes, kids. mii earning signs, too. ivities. Of course, if any of you peopie are like me, you probably spent more time and effort making your H travel plans and accommodation arrange ments than you did studying for midterms. Yes, I said midterms ("Dohh!" and A slap forehead). So what you have stretched out before you is "the longest week of your life" (to be repeated many times over). Now, we all know that time is linear and uniform and doesn't change. One P R I N G second last week is neither longer nor shorter than one second today. There spri time on your sp certain hallucinogens that will go name- see less. This is what causes the week.be- tim fore spring break to mutate into the tha "week that would not die." ins There are some steps you can take ten to combat this malady,-though. You might want to avoid participating in any boring, brainless activities that would ^ only serve to give your tortured mind cj^ time to dream of all the vices you can . indulge in while on your vacation. Things like, oh say...class would just make this ^ week harder on you. Youll want to plan your day around a task that will keep wc your mind occupied. Sleeping is a per- ] feet example of this.
