Benson Theatre j Hie Day They Sh ROBERT BERENTSEN Staff Writer The play "The Day They Shot John Lennon" revolves around nine New Yorkers and their feelings about John Lennon's murder and life in general. The story focuses on four small groups: three teen-agers, two Vietnam Veterans, two yuppieish thirtysomethingB and an elderly man and a black teen who live in the seme nnart ment building. Each individual in the different groups reacts differently to Lennon's death and has varying views on life and the problems in it. The three teenagers were the most personally affected by Lennon's death. Consisting of a former couple and their lonesome friend, the three were very remorseful for their fallen hero. This group showed how youth puts musicians on a pedestal and when their idol falls, they fall with him. One teen made the comment that he felt like he was dead too. They said Lennon was "like Christ." As sad as that is, many teens relate to musicians and athletes more than anyone else. The man and woman in their thirties were the only ones to go through Beatlemania. They said they could not go to work because one of their last links to their adolescence had just died. The female was genuinely sad but the man seemed to tell her whatever she wanted to hear. The CD features Gianni's collaboration with cellist Heidi Brown. Angelo's use of alternate tunings creates a full, almost dulcimer effect with plenty of droning notes and overtones which blends beautifully with Brown's soothing mixture of bass and melody lines. Add to that Angelo's stong lyrics and engaging voice, and it's a very different and powerful sound.
