Gamecocks, 1 RYAN WILSON Asst. Sports Editor Hie University of Arkansas Razorbacks come into town tomorrow to take on the Gamecocks at Williams-Brice Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Arkansas is coming off a win against Southern Methodist University, while the Gamecocks are looking for their first win after losing to Georgia, 24-21, Saturday. Arkansas Head Coach Danny Ford, the sixth winningest active coach, was optimistic about his team's chances in the SRC during the preseason. "It is the toughest league in the country. But, there are three or four teams whose personnel is better than the rest, and after that, it's pretty even. That doesn't mean those three or four will win them all, they're just more qualified. Everyone in the SEC returns more starters than we do except Ole Miss, but again, our speed is better and we think we can be an improved football team. We're certainly ready to get started'' Ford said. The Arkansas defensive line will be led by Vernon Wade, Marcus Adair and Junior Soli. The Razorbacks lost all their starting linebackers to graduation. Senior Willie Johnson will be forced to lead a young and inexperienced linebacker corps. The secondary will be anchored by Dean Peevy and Carl Kidd. Arkansas' receivers have shown im provemeiib since summer camp ana will be led by J.J. Meadors and Kotto Cotton. The Razorbacks return three experienced quaterbacks. Sophomore Mike Cherry is in the No. 1 spot with Barry Lunney and Jason Allen backing up. "We wouldn't hesitate to put any of the top three into the game. We are confident of all of them," quarterback coach Rockey Felker said. Runningback has always been the key position for Ford-coached teams. Oscar Malone and Marius Johnson return at tailback. The duo combined for 1,109 yards last season. The fullbacks are Carlton Calvin and Oscar Gray, who combined for 593 rushing yards. "It is a veteran group that understands Coach Ford's philosophy.
