10 Gamecock s] Now that the sports world has officially gone into high gear, also known as fall sports, the faithful Gamecock readers might have noticed something different about the sports pages. That's because our new fearless sports editor, Jimmy DeButts, has made some changes. I, for one, think these changes are for the better. . One of the most notice- _J able changes is Sportnlook, | | ov a collection of brief stories IByk * "*" or sports facts that could range from local to nation- >- ? al news. Another added feature will be USC player profiles. The Gamecock 3ports editorial staff, consisting of DeButts and myself, wants to focus on a different student-athlete each week. Some of the players will be the gamebreakers, and some will be the new faces, but they all are vital to Carolina athletics. We also are committed to covering all sports equally. Its seems for the last few years the Gamecock has focused on the big, money-producing sports (read football and basketball). We are going to make a conscious effort toward, total USC sport's coverage. One thing is missing from the sports pages, though. It is the editorials that look to the lighter side of sports. I had always found myself reading "Sportin' Fool" or "Santori's Shots" in years past, but this year we have yet to produce anything comparable. One of my appointed tasks this year will be this column. I believe I have the most appropriate title to headline this mindless drivel. So here it is.
