The USC baseball team lost three blowout games
to the Tennessee Volunteers over the weekend at u
Sarge Frye Field. ?
The Gamecocks (33-17, 9-9 SEC) lost Friday's
game 15-0 and Saturday's contest 9-1.
Scott Pace (8-3) was USC's starting pitcher Fri- ai
day, giving up nine earned runs in five and a third
innings on eight hits. Pace walked tour and struck
out just one batter.
Tennessee starting pitcher Chris Freeman (9-4) P
pitched seven innings, giving up no runs. Freeman w
struck out sue Gamecock batters with two walks, o
USC managed six hits off him, but were unable to ^
capitalize on them.
Rob DeBoer and Ted Rose each had two hits to 'r
lead Carolina. Mike Dezenzo had the only extra g>
base hit for the Gamecocks with a double.
Tennessee (37-11, 14-4) jumped out to an ear- th
ly two-run lead in the first inning. The Vols added ir
