DeMars named iTA Region II Coach of the Year Fjom staff reports Men's tennis coach Kent DeMars was named Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Region II Coach of the Year Wednesday and is one of the ipight finalists for National Coach of the Year. _ The Region II award was DeMars' fourth in the last six years. He has guided the Gamecocks to a 19-6 overall record this spring including a perfect 11-0 mark in Region II play. USC 1(isranked No. 13 nationally. DeMars, a native of East St. Louis, 111., is 371-170 in his 21st year of coaching in the collegiate ranks. DeMars was named National Coach rs on SEC Acadei niors Claire Hammond (3.76 GPA) and Heather Coburn (3.62) both made the honor roll while majoring in marketing and accounting respectively. Sophomore Tracy Pulliam (3.48) and junior Helen Crook (3 9) both excelled academically while majoring in journalism. Junior Victoria Davies (3.82), a geography student, and eraduate student Nathalie Acacio (3.01) also made the list.
