Editor Sixteen days and counting until graduation, at least for journalism majors, as well as engineering, business and other colleees. But humani ties and many other majors have to wait until May 14, one more day I'm a little jealous of them because they get to experience one more day of college. Some seniors, however, are jumping up and down. "It's OVER! No more pencils, no more books, no more professors' dirty looks!" Still, some others are doing the five-year plan. "I'LL be back!" But others, like me, are clingy and distant at the same time toward what we've known for the past four (five, six, etc.) years. We're all anxious. Scared. Excited. Maybe insecure. Probably unemployed. I'm one of the blessed ones who found a job, and that's really a feat in the competitive field of journalism. For two years, I will be working at the national Baptist newspaper of Great Britain with offices located in Didcot, a small town about 10 miles south of Oxford and 40 minutes by iiani liuiii lAJiiuuii. I can't come home for Christmas. Heck, I won't be able to come home until August 1996! So not only am I leaving a university I have grown to love and appreciate, not to mention a group of friends that have been the best I've ever had, but I am also leaving my country. Most of the ?pninr? nnlv hiivp tn Hr> thp former. So, this year has been a bittersweet year. I've had a great time, but knowing that I'll never have an experience quite like this again makes me either cling to what and who I know or become distant and reflective. I attended a seminar on the effects of graduation at a Baptist Student Union conference earlier this month, and I learned that these feel ings are normal. The answer: Relax. God has a plan. It doesn't matter if you believe in God or not; there is a plan. We're taught in high school chemistry (college, too, but I didn't have to take it. Another blessing.) that the scheme of things leans toward entropy over energy. Entropy is chaos and disorder, while energy is the opposite. I think the planet we live on, though, is not that chaoting To The F W J, >r E lager Coordina 1 eat Britain ic. Everybody has a purpose to live as well as a calling. Some seniors may still not know their purpose. Everybody should believe that in some way or other. Therefore, each of us should trust in the fact that we will find our reason for being and then act on it. So make some memories (which you actually can REMEMBER) these last two weeks or so, seniors. Go to your last midnight movie in Columbia. Romp through Sidney (Excuse me, Finlay) Park until the police throw you out, and play on that little playground. Take a doughnut run to Krispy Kreme at 2 a.m., and talk until dawn. But do pass your exams! You haven't walked yet! Anyhow, just relax and enjoy your time left here, and leave on good terms. There is something bigger and better out there. Seniors, I'll see you May 13 or 14! Goodbye and God bless, USC. Cheerio, England. Here I come! iiture T.
