Then we waited in line for our widebody jet, which sat about 20 people per row and looked vaguely like a flying cattle car. As we waited on the tarmac, our captain informed us we were "approximately" sixth in line for takeoff. I got a bit worried, because if the captain couldn't give us an exact number on such a simple item as takeoff order, he wasn't really the man for the "fly the big plane" job. Speaking of those masks, I'm con1 vinced they're plastic Dixie cups J with Ziploc bags hooked to them. Also, they tell you to fasten your seat belt in turbulence, but if that plane crashes, does it really matter if you're wearing your belt? Later in the flight, the customer service representatives pushed their food carts down the aisles, being careful to smash them into every aisle seat person's elbows. They dis tributed little snack packets with a veritable potpourri of exotic, inedible treats for our culinary pleasure. Airplane food is apparently a strange mix of whatever the customer service representatives can dig up in the back. On one flight, we had sandwiches made of mustard, bread, roast beef, turkey, cheese, ham and mayonnaise sealed shut with a thick coating of wallpaper glue. The sandwiches are served cold; mine was froxen in a big deli counter snowball. Society wonders why this is happening and parents are protesting, "It's not my child." Everyday the media is reporting various criminal acts committed by children, and as if that weren't horrifying enough, the number of murders committed by children are escalating everyday. We ask ourselves, "What is happening to our youth?" Whatever happened to the day when children were harassed only by an irate neighbor whose flowers had just been trampled, instead of being harassed by drug pushers or gang members. Or the day when children went to school and received a good education without their parents worrying about them being shot, stabbed or raped by their classmates? Instead of schoolchildren worrying about the type of lunch box or what color book bag they have, they're now worrying about what kind of gun or knife they're going to carry.
