Common st From staff reports It's late on a Friday night. You f and your friends are leaving a Five Points bar. You know you have had too much to drink and should not )Ston drive, but a couple of your friends seem fine. Although they have been drinking, you trust they are capable of driving. Getting home and climbing into bed is all that's on your mind. Sound familiar? It might. In a recent USC Office of Alcohol and Drug Programs student opinion survey, 42 percent of the students surveyed reported they are willing to ride with a driver who has been drinking. Of those ,n<s surveyed, 23 percent also reported they had driven motor vehicles after L drinking alcoholic beverages. What ;s" do these statistics mean? abby In 1992, there were 972 people in the 18- to 21-year-old age bracket involved in alcohol and other drug- 1 impaired accidents in South a Carolina. These accidents resulted ' in 458 injuries and 19 fatalities. If e you drive with someone who is s . 5 under the influence, you could be ? ink one of those statistics. What about those who admitted 11 to driving while under the influ- a ence? I Atfairs Let's look at what a DUI convic- ^ tion could cost you.
