He started collegiate basketball as a player for North Carolina from 1968-70. He was an assistant there for 14 years before being named coach at Wichita State in 1987. As coach there, he posted a 61-32 record. Fogler went to Vanderbilt in 1989. In his four years there, he had 81 wins and 46 losses. He went to the NCAA Tournament twice, in 1991 and 1993. His team was NIT champion in 1990. Fogler has been involved in collegiate athletics for 25 years as a player, assistant and coach. During that time, he has participated in postseason touraements every year, including five trips to the Final Four as a player and assistant at North Carolina.
