Be careful this weekend and enjoy no reason to be excessive, and there is SGA encourag provides camp SGA is working hard to achieve its goals for the 199394 year. Much of this effort began in the spring and contint ued during the summer. The beginning of the summer was devoted to lobbying the Legislature for higher education funding. SGA representatives contacted legislators and expressed concern for the lack nf fundino for hioher education. Efforts to provide a Homecoming incentive package were also undertaken during the summer. SGA combined its efforts with the Homecoming Commission to raise money for prizes during the Homecoming v parade. Together, we raised $4,000 to help fund and award prizes for the parade. Campus facilities were also one of the foremost priorities for summer work. SGA's requests for automatic doors and on-campus telephones were approved by Facilities Management and are scheduled to be installed this fall. An automatic door will be installed at the humanities classroom building, and an on-campus phone J will be installed at the College of Engineering. We also worked to provide computers for students at Bates. Housing, the Residence Hall A . . j PAmnnt/ir Association ana Services worked with SGA to provide a computer lab. We hope to expand this lab and eventually provide computer facilities for residence halls all over campus. This will reduce the number of people forced to use the Thomas Cooper Library 4 computer lab late at night. SGA also created a database matching senators with campus organizations. Each senator was assigned a group of organizations in addition to the ones that he or she already belongs. This will enable each organization to stay in contact with SGA, which will be especially important during budget hearings in the spring. The fall semester began with a senate retreat to acquaint senators with legislation ideas and 5 procedure. Senators promptly ?cock Since 1908 Shayla Stutts, Viewpoints Editor . Previously unfilled Senate seats in journalism, math and science, public health and business have been filled. Applications are currently being taken to fill seats in social work and applied professional sciences. Any students interested in applying for these seats should come by SGA as soon as possible to fill out an application. The senate still has a tremendous amount of work to accomplish for the fall semester. Revisions to the SGA constitution are being drafted that will make senators more accountable to their constituents.
