USC flexed its offensive muscle
in its home opener Saturday night,
gaining 631 yards on the way to a
34-3 against the Louisiana Tech
Bulldogs.
Throughout the game, Steve
Taneyhill and Brandon Bennett
dominated the overmatched
Bulldog defense. Taneyhill threw
for a career best 311 yards. While
Taneyhill was chasing records,
Bennett was chasing history,
becoming the first Gamecock to
gain 100 or more yards receiving
and running in the same game.
On their first drive, the
Gamecocks sputtered when Bennett
was stopped behind the line of
scrimmage on third down. USC's
defense then stopped the Bulldogs
in three plays.
The Gamecock offense got on
track, engineering two long drives
in the first quarter but managing
only two field goals after Chris
Alford arid Toby Cates dropped
touchdown passes on consecutive
drives. Reed Morton kicked field

On its first drive of the second

the USC 40 and ran to the Bulldog

Cates tried to break the tackle,
Bulldog free safety Rocky Kingera
stripped the ball, thwarting the P

snaps but were aided by a personal ^

Russell Clark for a late hit. The 15yard

Woods was pleased with the

"We were making plays and

Woods said.
While the Gamecocks routed the

mistakes that Woods will look to
work on prior to the Thursday

"The penalties and the quarterback/center
fumbles hurt us,"
Woods said. "We'll have to work
on that."
