The USC football team goes "Between the
Hedges" in Athens, Georgia this Saturday to
fcopen the 1993 season, or as many Gamecock
fans prefer to think, continue the second half of
last year's schedule.
After a horrible 0-5 start, the Gamecocks won
five of their last six to finish 5-6, and instill
confidence and optimism in their supporters.
The first game in last year's losing streak was
to Saturday's opponent, the Georgia Bulldogs.
After a tight first half, the stronger 'Dawgs

USC's first ever SEC game. They were led by
Heisman trophy runner-up Garrison Hearst, AllSEC
receiver Andre Hastings, and quarterback
Eric Zeier.
* Fortunately for the Gamecocks, only one of
those players is returning from the 10-2 Citrus
Bowl team, as Hearst and Hastings opted for the
NFL early.
UGA will not be without their share of offensive
weapons. Zeier has broken just about every
school record for passing at Georgia. The
'Dawgs offense will be centered around him.
; Joining Zeier in the backfield will be senior
runningback Frank Harvey and junior scatback
Terrell Davis, who replaces Hearst. These two
players combined for 695 yards rushing with

The weakness of the offensive side of the ball on
for Georgia is the line. Only one starter, All- sw
American Bernard Williams, returns to protect soi
Eric Zeier.
Defensively, the 'Dawgs will be anchored by Gj
their linebackers. At the inside linebacker posi- te<

Defensive weak spots for Georgia will be the
