Sinatra Steals Mobster Spotlight: Three reputed mobsters were on trial, but Frank Sinatra momentarily stole tire show: His name came up in a secretly taped conversation that die government placed in evidence. In the tape, Lorenzo Mannino asks Giuseppe "Joe" Gambino if he would "talk to Frank Sinatra (about) getting a few jobs for A1 Martino in Las Vegas." At another point in tire tape, made in October 1988. Mannino indicates that such a request might be futile. "Sinatra can't stand A1 Martino, Joe," he says. Gambino responds: "Yeah, I know." Martino appeared in the movie "The Godfather" as singer Johnny Fontane, a character many believe was meant to suggest Sinatra. Mannino, Gambino and his brother, Giovanni, are being tried on charges that they engaged in racketeering, murder and drug trafficking while working for die Gambino crime family. A call to Sinatra's publicist seeking his comment was not returned. $100,000 Kennedy Business Card Appears: When former Sen. George McGovern sold his house in 1964, he didn't realize he'd left behind a card signed by John F. Kennedy that might now be worth a whole lot of money. The man who bought rights to demolish the house from its latest owners said diat behind a kitchen cabinet he found a business card from the days when Kennedy was a Massachusetts senator. Don Herrick says someone told him he might sell die item for $100,000. "That's fine with me." McGovern said in a telephone interview from Washington on Wednesday. "I wish him well. It might be worth something to someone else." "My guess is when he sent me a copy of his book, the card dropped out," said McGovem, the unsuccessful Democratic nominee for president in 1972. He was referring to Kennedy's book "Profiles in Courage." Besides the Kennedy business card, Herrick also found a high school report card for McGovern's daughter. Susan, and notices to tlie McGoverns from the post office and library. Herrick said he would return the report card and other items to McGovem, but would keep the Kennedy card. The quintet features vocalist/guitarist Corky Jones, lead guitarist John Carter, drummer Charlie Pruett, bassist Mike Sain and guitarist Clay Fuller. The band was originally named after a music shop owned by Fuller's family, and Jones describes its live performances in colorful terms. "The live show is pretty rock'n'roily," Jones said. "It's not Motley Crue rock'n'roll, but it's more T-shirt and jeans, more towards the inception of heavy rock." The band hails from that mecca of Southern rock, Athens, Ga., which had previously produced such groups as R.F.M. and die B52's. Their sound can't be lumped into any one category, however. "It's not like we all set out to fill a huf u/hpn ivp il didn't sound like what was out there in the late '80s," Fuller said. '"A lot of the earlier stuff from Athens was more tied up in an attitude. They were just coming from a different vantage point." Allgood's first gig was five years ago at a benefit for presidential candidate Michael Dukakis. The band's latest release, "Uncommon Goal," is their first or a large label. Their first album "Ride die Bee," was released independently. Allgood's musical perspective is that if the South's gonna do it again, it's gonna do it Allgood's way. "Uncommon Goal" is distint guished by the guitar work Fuller and Carter. The two deliver deft l touches on the emotional "Time Is Gonna Bring Us A Change" and ; then show a harder edge on a cover I of the Buddy Miles classic "Them Changes."
