They pre- I viously had seen their customers v head to North Myrtle Beach, where \ Sunday drinking was allowed. * "We couldn't be happier," said Glenn West, marketing and enter- I tainment manager at the Myrtle 1 Beach Pavilion. "It's a great begin ning (for the tourist season).... I'd say we've had a 10-12 percent * increase." USC graduate student Jeremy 1 Davis is also happy with the new 1 policy. Davis once worked at a restaurant in nearby Georgetown t County, and said he saw a lot of business lost to areas where the ( bars were open Sundays. 1 "They would make a lot of extra s money that way," Davis said of the bars. "It's good for business." 5 Sophomore Rebecca Edwards 1 doesn't agree. "I don't think it's a ] good idea because Sunday is the ' Lord's day," Edwards said. "If people want to drink, they should buy 1 ir rhp nioht hpfnrp " IV "1V North Myrtle Beach Police Chief Charles Sendler said there weren't as many people on his city's beaches this weekend because 1 much of the sand was washed away by a major winter storm in March and weekend high tides reached beach accesses in many places. "They (students) can't go on the , beach," Sendler said. "There's no beach to go on. This is the first time I've ever seen the tide play such a role in it." The result was an unusually quiet weekend.
