Dallas C( with camp By JAY TILLEY Staff Writer Dallas Cowboys defensive back Bill Bates spoke to USC Christian groups on campus Thursday night in the Nursing Auditorium. The event was sponsored by Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Campus Crusade for Christ, Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Navigators, the Baptist Student Union and Rock Christian Fellowship. Bates' sister Rachel, a USC senior, was also instrumental in bringing Bates to campus. Bates said in his speech, "I came here because it was the opportunity to not only do something for my sister, but also to hopefully do something for some other people as well. "I've always believed that I'm playing football for a reason, and, if I happen to, through my career, change at least one person's life in a positive way ... then it's all been worth it," he said. Bates spoke on a variety of aspects of his life. He said his faith in Jesus Christ has always strengthened him and pulled him and his family through hard times. "Everybody goes through changes in life," he said. "That's what life is filled with, and it's all USC's Mot By JACK DUNN News Editor Members from the USC Model United Nations met in New York this past week to play the role of South Korea in a series of simulations in the U.N. Bates also discussed the joys of being on a world championship team, of having a family and a good life in general, but also stressed the fact that his faith in God is the most important aspect of his life. His main message was "Have faith in the Lord, and have a dream." Bates pointed out that his faith doesn't disrupt the team chemistry, and, if anything, it makes it stronger. "There are no ill feelings either way," Bates said. "After all, everyone on our team is actually human. Some believe different things, and lei U.N. tra respective states. The schools then came to New York and sat on several committees during the week and met in a General Assembly plenary session on Saturday to ratify their proposals. International studies freshman Carson Bush represented USC and South Korea on the General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade Committee and as a delegate in the plenary session. Rachel Bates said, "I thought it was neat (that he came). I don't really get to see my brother that much since he lives in Dallas, but I thought it was neat to see beyond the professional football player side of him and to really get to see his faith in Jesus." Bates spoke to several students before and after the program, signing autographs. The night was also filled with several singing groups from various Christian organizations. Bates said, "I'll be back next year, and, if we keep playing like we have been, we'll be Uiere (at the Super Bowl) again. We can do it.
