The student government president we elect should have the authority to make final decisions, and his power should not be limited. Sen. Brown mentioned the threat of introducing a bill that would limit the power of the president to select council members. I think Sen. Brown and others are wrong. Being a Freshman Council member myself, I can say I did not know any of the selection committee members. They were kind and polite, but they asked basic questions that could not have properly evaluated my candidacy. 1 had met Tom Young before, and I know he has the wisdom to review the list of applications and choose the ones with the highest leadership potential. As he did with the four special cases, our president obviously recognized the better candidaies because two of the four added became executive members.
