* use tar Cocks prepare By TONY SANTORI Staff Writer ^ The Gamecock basketball team pulled off their biggest upset of the year thus far as they defeated the Florida Gators 81-76 in Gainesville Wednesday night. The win lifted South Carolina to a surprising 3-2 SEC record and a 7-7 overall. USC is now in third place in the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference. Junior Jamie Watson led the Gamecocks with 21 points, but junior Emmett Hall was the spark for Carolina as he pumped in 20 points on eight of 13 shooting and | pulled down eight rebounds. Carolina led 37-33 at halftime due, in large part, to the solid inside play of Hall, Chris Leso and Edmund Wilson. The trio combined for,21 points and eight rebounds in the first stanza. After a shooting poorly the first half, Watson bounced back to hit five of eight shots after intermission, and also managed to grab 12 rebounds in 37 minutes of playing k time f Carolina won the game despite shooting a woeful 40.5 percent from the floor. Luckily for USC, they were able to convert 21 out of 26 free throws in the game.
