Friday marks the start of USC's
eighth annual Parents Day
Weekend.
With the theme "Let Us
Entertain You," Parents Day is
three days of action-filled family
togetherness.
"We're aiming to show parents
how much we enjoy being here,"
Kim Lovelace, student committee
chairperson for Parents Weekend,
said.
Parents Weekend originated as

Question: What happens when
you take an incredible story, turn it
over to a brilliant director and
sprinkle it with such talented actors
as Robert Redford, Sidney Poitier
and Dan Ackroyd?
Answer: You get a funny action
picture that doesn't leave you feeling
cheated at the end.
Conclusion: Sneakers is one of the
best films you will see this year.
You know it has to be extraordinary

Lovelace points to several events
as highlights of the weekend.
Friday offers the Student
Organization Fair, parent workshops
and a reception at the
President's House on the
Horseshoe. #
"Parents usually enjoy learning
the history of the Horseshoe area,"
Lovelace said.
Friday also features a pep rally
at 6 p.m.
"We'll have music and the
whole nine yards." Lovelace said.
"Come out and give a cheer for the
Gamecocks ? they need it."
Another Friday night highlight is

The body of a student named Laura
Palmer (Sheryl Lee) is found in a
river near the town of Twin Peaks,
and FBI Agent Dale Cooper (Kyle
MacLaughlan) arrives to hunt for
the murderer.
The movie is a nrennel of sorts

as it chronicles the final days of
Laura Palmer's life, of her abusive
family, her drug addiction, her sexual
exploits and her stalking by
evil spirits.
More than anything else, the
appeal of the show was its refreshing
unpredictability; and, for over
two hours of the feature film,
director Lynch delivers on this
trademark style.

Although many of us have read

The characters discover the
neaning of life and learn to cope
vith illness, death, love and birth.
They uncover their identities and
>row stronger.
The play displays all their feelngs
and emotions to its fullest.
This play should be included in a
light of entertainment with laugher,
joy and suspense.
The actresses who played the
four daughters, Eleanor Fox (Meg),
performance is great.
Ackroyd is also starting to
emerge as a credible actor, having
thrown away the cloak of hard
humor and settling into the mantle

Sara Arko (Jo), Carol Baker (Beth),
and Tara Killian (Amy) gave a
wonderful performance.
Some cast members may be
familiar to theater audiences
because they attend USC. Fox and
Will Lashley (Laurie) are secondyear
law students. Allan Fulmer Jr.
(Mr. March) is a USC alumni.
Arko's name may also ring a
bell with audiences. She appeared
in the university's production of
"Ghosts." Allen Harmon (Mr.
Laurence) also participated in
USC's showing of "Of Thee I
Sing."
The shows will continue through
Sept. 26, but there will be no performance
Monday.
The theater will also be airing
dramas such as Showstoppers
Calvacacie of Stars, I Remember
Mama, Steel Magnolias, Meet Me
in St. Louis, and Noises Off.

This is a great Film ? one of the
best I've seen in some time.
