First game By JIMMY DEBUTTS Staff Writer Entering Williams-Brice stadium Saturday night, I could feel the excitement building. I was getting my first taste of Gamecock football. Coming from Florida, not knowing how big USC football was to their loyal fans, I did not know wnat to expect. Walking through the stadium, I watched three- and four-year- old kids dressed in the garnet and black, restlessly awaiting the start of the game. I saw grandparents and grandchildren sitting together cheering the USC players as they were announced. My ticket read lower east level, row A3, seat 26. I found my seat in the third row on the 25 yard line. I was right on field level. I thought I had been blessed with unbelievable luck, considering I got my ticket on Wednesday. Then I noticed the Georgia players were right in front of me. I glanced to my right, two sections over was the Georgia band and all around me were Bulldog fans. As the Georgia team was intro duced I heard several Georgia road warriors scream,"Go Daaawgss!!" I just stood there, nonchalantly taking all the sights and sounds in. When the Gamecock players made their way onto the field, with the smoke all around them, I felt a chill go up my spine. I got caught up in the excitement and started cheering as the players were introduced. I was impressed with the smooth black uniforms USC wore, and expected to see Jerry Glanville on the sidelines, not Sparky Clemson to act By The Associated Press Clemson will waive its no-solicitation policy at Memorial Stadium on Saturday for a one-time effort to aid victims of Hurricane Andrew, the school said Tuesday. After USC committed its first turnover 1 figured Georgia, ranked 13th in the nation, would I put the first points on the } board. Then Junior cor- w nerback Frank Adams recovered a fumble deep in bulldog territory, i started jumping up and down, and took pleasure & noting the Georgia fans were silent. USC was able to put three points on the scoreboard and I m thought the Gamecocks - were playing at the level, if not better than the Bulldogs. The first half ended with USC wr01 leading 6-0. I felt confident USC l?ss was just begining to get their grea offense together. I was not pre- sive pared for the third quarter. On the for third play of the third quarter, thro Georgia running back Garrison j0jn Hearst ran 49 yards for a touch- ^ ^ down. With the extra point Georgia ^ had a 7-6 lead.
