However, Georgia's Lady Bulllogs
would not die. Although
JGA did not shoot well, they

The Lady Gamecocks dropped

35 free-throws for a feeble 51 percent.
To make matters worse, the
Lady Gamecocks missed 10 of
these free-throws in the second
half.
USC and Georgia battled nip
and tuck for the entire first half
with the Lady Gamecocks, taking
a 27-26 lead into halftime. The
Lady Gamecocks, led by Williams
and Nicki Bass, opened up an
11-point lead with 11:53 left in the
second half. Bass nailed 5-of-5
3-point attempts, and finished with
19 points overall.
Williams then drew her fourth
foul and the Lady Bulldogs responded
with a 6-1 run to chop the
lead to 45-39. The lead grew again
before USC fell apart. Georgia
forced the Lady Gamecocks to turn
the ball over six times in the final
six minutes as UGA took a 57-53
lead with 3:41 left to play.
Bass and Williams hit freethrows
to tie the game at 57. Williams
then added a basket to tie the
game at 59 after Georgia's Lady
Hardmon scored two of her teamhigh
16 points.
Georgia made four free-throws
in the final two minutes to take a
63,-59 lead with 10 seconds left.
Bass then bombed her fifth 3-pointer
to pull the Gamecocks to
within one.
Georgia killed the final four seconds
with a full-court pass as the
Lady Gamecocks stood wondering
what could have been.
Williams expressed her disappointment
at the close contest.
"Losing by one point, for me, is
tougher than losing by 20 because
you're in it the whole game. Until
the very end, we had a chance."

The USC intramural department
held its two-on-two basketball
tournament Sunday in ihe Blatt
P.E. center.
In the final game, law students
David Hoffman and Tom Chase
defeated juniors Scott Kay and
Clint Smith 16-12 to take the
championship.
"The competition here was
good," Hoffman said, "but I am
Kina or aisappomieu mere were
not more people in the tournament.
I sure didn't expect to win today,
but when you only have to play
twice to get to the finals it makes
it a lot easier."
The tournament was open to all
USC students, faculty, staff and
their spouses. However, only eight
teams signed up for the
tournament.
"1 think these events should be
advertised more," Hoffman said,
"the more teams that are signed up
means better competition for
everybody."
The tournament was run in a
single elimination format. Games
went to 16 points with each basket
counting one point. They were
self-officiated games, and the winner
had to win by two.
Despite the low turnout, the
competition was enjoyable Kay
said. "The final game was a good
match-up, he said. One or the
guys on the other team had played
for Furman so his experience really
made a difference. We hung
with them early, but they soon
