Fuller, oth class on an & R ch Taylor KSlllfJ UIIUIZ As the current semester and 1991 draw to a close, I offer these final thoughts. Otherwise, good luck on exams and Merry Christmas. . . . What a pleasure it has been to watch Gamecock quarterback Bobby Fuller perform on the gridiron. Fuller's accomplishments the past two seasons on a team that suffered from inexperience and mediocre overall talent were exceeded only by his class off the field. The Miami native was always available for interviews and never once displayed the arrogance that many less-talented athletes sometimes exhibit. USC fans mav not fullv annreciate j j ? r i Fuller's talents until next season when he will no longer be around to take snaps. I was amazed and saddened that #20 was not elected by his teammates as one of the 1991 team's two permanent captains. Hopefully an NFL team will better appreciate Fuller's talents and leadership abilities. . . . Other USC football players that were impressive off the Field include Jerry Inman, Eddie Miller, Joe Reaves, Jay Killen, Troy Duke and Bobby Brown. Inman and Reaves are especially well-spoken young men that epitomize the type of student-athlete USC seeks, but does not always Find. ... Nancy Wilson is one the nation's elite coaches, evidenced by her 343 career victories, 149 coming at Carolina. Her past four USC teams have each won at least 22 games and advanced to the NCAA tournament Now that the Lady Gamecocks are competing in the finest women's basketball conference in the country, it would nice to see a ciyahlp inrrp.a^p. in hnmp. attendance. . .. Another reason for fans to attend Lady Gamecock games is to see junior Marsha Williams perform. Williams, a 6-4 center from Moncks Corner, is a legitimate All-American candidate who has the ability to dominate games. As her inexperienced, but very talented supporting cast continues to improve, the Lady Gamecocks will eventually establish themselves as a national power. ... As I have been preaching for two years, Kenny Anderson is one of the most overrated basketball players to ever wear a uniform. To those "experts" who said three years ago that Anderson, as a high school senior, was good enough to start in the NBA, I find it ironic that to this day he can't even start for the pathetic Nets. The Saints' loss to the Cowboys yesterday makes it four straight defeats for a team that most thought had the NFC West locked up. I guess the cream always rises to the top, and vice versa. On the other hand, the Atlanta Falcons are in great shape to make the playoffs for the first time in about a decade. The defending champion New York Giants were eliminated from the playoffs by the Eagles Sunday. As I have been saying all year, I really feel Ray Handley should be fired. He set the tone for the Giants' disappointing season by benching AllPro, Super Bowl MVP Phil Simms for Jeff Hostetler. He further embarrassed himself bv savine that the reason the -J ?J Giants were losing was because other teams were stealing their plays and later walked out of a press conference like a spoiled child because he didn't like a reporter's question. This guy is making the NFL look bad, plain and simple. At the other extreme of coaching talent, Art Shell of the L.A. Raiders is really proving to be one of the best coaches in the NFL. The Raiders started out with a horrible showing against the Oilers, but have since become a division-leading legitimate contender.
