Give the gift of life, GIVE blood! + American Red Cross South Carolina Regional Blood Services Star of Wonder will begin its eighth run Nov. 30, and the students will be in for an interesting and thought-provoking treat The show attempts to explore, from a scientific standpoint exactly where and when the Star of Bethlehem appeared and what it was. Richard McColm an, planetarium director, said "people are often curious whether the appearance of the Star of Bethlehem was a genuine scientific event and if so, was it indeed a star." The program utilizes the best known scientific, biblical and historical records available to try to offer the viewer a glimpse of what was happening in the sky on the night the star was seen. Janna Cotterill, director of public relations for the Columbia Museum of Art and a USC graduate student as well, wished to emphasize that despite the subject matter, the show does not have a religious bias. "This is not a religiously-based show," Cotterill said. "It doesn't draw any conclusions, but rather presents a time frame through his tory, through China and Asia, to compare chronologically recorded events ... to determine exactly when it happened." Cotterill also warned that the show, which runs on the Saturdays and Sundays between Nov. 30 and Jan. 19 at 2 and 4 p.m., will fill up quickly.
