Chucky returr Movie re By BRIAN SHELTON Staff Writer Folks, before I begin my review of Child's Play 3, I've got to get something off my chest. The day I run from a foot-tall doll is the day T fn*n in mi/ momkaroKin no <1 x lUiu 111 in j iuviui/vAdiu|/ ao u human-being and become a plant OK, I feel better now. For the life of me, I just can't figure out why all these people in these movies are terrified of this Chucky character. He's got this little knife, these short, stubby legs (which means he probably can't run very fast) and spends most of his time delivering these stupid, unfunny one-liners. Come on, my Grandmother is scarier than he is. Of course, I'm not saying dolls can't be scary. Take for instance those "Cabbage Patch Dolls" that used to be so popular a few years ago. They had those fat cheeks, those hollow, sunken eyes and that blank expression and possessed normally gentle parents to fight to the death just to obtain one for their children. They certainly sent chills up my spine but Chucky just gets on my nerves. f?! I would love to say Child's Play 3 actually has a plausible story this time or characters that don't act like "living brain-donors" but, unfortunately, it doesn't. It merely just rips off the first two films and has decided to add even more illogical plot twists. For those of you unfamiliar with the stay, Chucky is a toy doll who has the soul of homicidal killer Charles Lee Ray trapped inside of him. I don't have the time or the patience to explain how this came about (let's just say it has something to do with "voodoo") but the first two movies focused on him trying to get out of the doll's body and into that of 8-year old Andy's. Of course, no one believed Andy's story of a homicidal doll ana, as a resun, most or mem ended up pushing up daisies. At the end of Part 2, he was able to convince his stepsister and, at the conclusion, he seemingly obliterated - the doll by blowing it the hell up. ?** mJ| A jt to the sadistic school barber, B( in body. ippa ements: tcademics, arts, athletics, media is Available: , Campus Activities Center, use Info Desk Interest: >ns Available >ns due ;tees names will be posted at al NTION \RENTS! Sfr m filler doll The audience was supposed to be asking itself if this was the end of Chucky but, unfortunately, it wasn't Part 3 opens with a totally ludicrous rebirth of Chucky which was probably thought up by somebody who was drinking heavily. Unlike the second film, which actually went through some time and effort in explaining how Chucky could return, Part 3 has him alive and kicking by the end of the opening credits with little explanation at all. I guess this time ar ound, the filmmakers decided to skip things like plausibility and reality and get right to the senseless slaughter. Chucky, of course, wants to find ( Andy so he can finally "get out of this body," but Andy, now 16 years old, is at a military school < which is supposed to discipline I him that there is no such thing as t killer dolls.
