filling in the details for four of the five top
cabinet posts under his new plan of
reorganization.

The provost, who also serves as vice president
of academic affairs, will have more responsibilities
under Palms' structure.
George Reeves, dean of USC's Graduate
school, will head the office until a replacement
is found for Arthur Smith. Smith was
recently named president of the University of
Utah.
Reporting to Reeves in the meantime will
be:
Martin Soloman, vice provost for Computer
Services.
John Duffy, vice provost for Regional
Campuses and Continuing Education. The

wins soft drink

USC has joined the "Pepsi generation,"
awarding its soft drink
contract to the second-largest boiling
giant, Pepsi-Cola. Pepsi will
eplace Coca-Cola, which has
[uenched the thirst of Carolinians
'or ten years.
The switch to Pepsi, which will
ake about three weeks to compete,
gives Pepsi a substantial porion
of USC's soft drink business.
Under the new contract, USC
vill gain about $100,000 more in

Pepsi will also be served at the
Carolina Coliseum and Koger Cen
er fountains, but Coke still will be
ivailable at Williams-Brice Stalium
and at all food service outlets
