Preview W from staff reports As students begin to arrive for the new - semester, Preview Week '91 is in full swing. The preview begin yesterday and will run 1 through Sunday. Today's agenda is full of activities for new and returning students. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today a Colloquium for all new students will be held at the Koger Center. Attendance is expected for all new students. following inis meeting ot the freshman Class, a session on book buying tipos will be held at 2 p.m. in Russell House Room 327. Immediately following will be a meeting to orient students towards what University Dining Services has to offer. At 3 p.m. is a campus recreation/physical education center open house. Students will be able to meet other students involved in sports clubs, fitness programs and intramurals. Displays and deomstrations will be available. At 5 p.m. in Russell House Ballroom is a minority student workshop. This is the first chance for freshman to meet their minority assistance peer, and receive information about university resources and campus life in general. Following the workshop is a minority student welcome at Belk Auditorium, Close Building at 7 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to meet the presidents of several major campus student organizations, USC administrators and members of the faculty. At 7 p.m. in the Koger Center is sorority rush orientation, for women who are interested in a social sorority. Rush Week officially starts with a rush orientation program. Finally, from 8 to 10 p.m. on PE field B, is "Playfair," presented by the Carolina Program Union. On Tuesday, more activities are planned, including a collection of displays on Russell House patio from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Athletic ticket information, t-shirts, sports information, free posters and calendars will be available, plus NCAA Campus Welcome Packs. Also featured Tuesday are tours of the stadium, a pep rally with the Carolina Cheerleaders and die Carolina Band, and a Video Dance Party in Russell House Ballroom. Wednesday features a program on sex in the '90's, a health and safety extravaganza, a healthy dining experience session, raft races in the library reflection pond, and a pizza party following a program on sex and dating at the Koger Center. On Thursday, the fairs continue with local merchants showcasing their products and services on Russell House Patio from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A scavenger hunt will be held in the Caroliniana Library on the Horseshoe. Also, a Meet Columbia Trolley Tour will be held, sponsored by the CPU. At 7 p.m. the play "Minnesota Moon" will be staged in Longstreet Theatre, followed by Carolina Caberet! from 9 to 11 p.m. in the Golden Spur. Entertainment includes comedy by Leroy Seabrook, music and dance. Friday, the Career Center will have an information table set up on the Russell House patio. Also, a session on freshman and employment and money will be held, an academic skills information table and quick study skills assessment inventory program and an outdoor movie will be featured. On Saturday, spend a morning "in the streets." From 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Russell House, students will have the chance to take part in a tradition of leaving cmapus to make a difference in the streets of Columbia. Students will be involved in volunteer projects ranging from reading to children, painting a shelter that serves the homeless in Columbia, to yardwork at a community center. The South Carolina Beach Party will follow on intramural fields D and E from 2 to 6 p.m. Students can gather for ice cream and drinks, sand volleyball and more. Bring your sunglasses, towells and suntan lotion, but no coolers are allowed. Ice cream and watermellon will be sold by University Dining. Sunday features the final day of Preview Week '91 before class starts Monday. A continental breakfast will start the day at 9 a.m. in Rutledge Chapel, on the Horseshoe followed by a campus worship in the chapel for a nondenominational service. / wuutr?
