Deposed Yankee boss George Steinbrenner, the man baseball fans love to hate, is ready to tell all in his yet-to-be written autobiography. A sports marketing company is in charge of pitching the project to publishers. "We haven't made a deal as yet," Arthur Klebanoff, head of publishing at International Marketing Group, said Monday. "We're still talking over all the offers." The asking price is said to be at least $1 million, New York Newsday reported. But all proceeds will be given to charities, Klebanoff said. He said "quite a number" of publishers are interested. The book would cover the life of the Yankee boss from his rise in the shipbuilding industry to his demise as chief Yankee operator. Dame Judith Anderson, the actress best known for her roles in "Santa Barbara" and the film classic "Rebecca," was being treated Monday for an undisclosed ailment, a hospital spokeswoman said. The 93-year-old Australian native was admitted to St. Francis Hospital on Aug. 4 for tests. No other details were disclosed. "She is alert and responding normally. That's all we can say," said hospital spokeswoman Debbie Cloud. Anderson's long career has spanned stage, movies and television. She may be best known as the malevolent housekeeper Mrs. Danvers in the 1940 movie "Rebecca." She was given the title of dame by Queen Elizabeth II in 1960. I do . mean real metal, not the crap in an MTV Hard Block. However, ^ I don't want to argue about se- ^ mantics: I consider such diverse bands as Guns N' Roses and ^ Metallica as being in this categ- L ory. When you start splitting ^ hairs over whether a group is Q] thrash, speed metal or funkpunk rockabilly, you're just p spitting in the wind. ^ In this column, I have made a t0 completely subjective list of what I feel are some of the best -n albums in hard rock history. For ?< the sake of fairness, I have limited each band's contribution on r i:?*. i iu uic iisi uj uiny unc aiuuiu. ^ Appetite for Destruction: Guns N' Roses, America's fa- er vorite heroin addicts, kick butt -n on their full-length debut. Every ^ song on this album is fantastic. ^ The Gunners were one of the few bands in the Eighties to have a truly original rock sound, and nothing proves it ? better than this LP. ^ Diary of a Madman: Ozzie ^ Osbourne and phenom guitarist Randy Rhodes team up for an ^ incredible album. Despite Ozzie's bad press, he really has an an accessible, commercial sound to on his solo stuff (not so when he was with Sabbath, see be- ^ low). Rhodes died in a plane ^ crash, but this recording shows ^ his amazing guitar talent As for Ozzie Osbourne, he is one of the best, most distinctive rock ^ vocalists ever. ^ Dirty Deeds Done Cheap: Australia's AC/DC has a hell of .Ql lot of good songs, but few con- ^ sistently good albums. I almost said Back in Black, but that's nQ too obvious. Anyway, I like or- iginal lead singer Bon Scott's lie voice better, and he sings on Dirty Deeds. This is a very on good album, although the lyrics pL are a little silly (particularly on 0f "Big Balls'').^ _ gr, Ejeciric: ine ^uu came oui an of nowhere with this awesome n( release. Most of the songs re basic two- and three-chord rogressions, but they all sound riginal and all rock loud. Fair Warning: Van Halen at leir hardest. No crummy Dancing in the Street" covers, lis is pure hard rock. Eddie an Halen treated some great uitar riffs/ particularly "Unhained" and "So This Is ove?" Sammy Hagar can't >uch David Lee Roth's vocals i this. Holy Diver: Ronnie James io (former frontman for Black abbath) and company put igether an amazingly consisnt collection of songs, includig "Rainbow in the Dark," Straight Through The Heart" id "Don't Talk to Strangers." uitar work by Vivian Camp;11, later of Whitesnake. Led Zeppelin: The selfititled debut of the group that vented heavy metal. I was ird-pressed to only name one ;p album for this list, so I just eked the first one. Zeppelin is hardly just a etal band, as any listener of ouses of the Holy can attest, it their first album includes neless hard rock classics such "Dazed and Confused," low Many More Times," Communication Breakdown" d "Good Times, Bad Times" name a few. Louder Than Love: Seat's Soundgarden released this, eir second full album, in 89. The band has a full, rich ingy sound with odd, existenlist lyrics that are a cut above J usual dumb cliches. In fact, ly parody the sterotypical rtal song-lyrics with the hilaris "Big Dumb Sex." You can it a Zep and Sabbath influx on the band, but they are rip-off artists. Master of Puppets: Metala puts me in the same fix as ippelin: it is hard to pick only e album of theirs for this list. ippets is very representative the band's sound, and has eat tunes like "Sanitarium" d "The Thing That Should )t Be." Metallica's layered itar sound is incredible, and ripped off constantly, just like P. raffic Light Men's Apparel ns and Irregulars ious Mail-Order atalogs at ount Prices Mon-Sat - 10-6 765-9972 bia's rogressive 2 for 1 I ltment ??????? r Styles able 112 md Pickens k) if ID
