USC is looking to win the event for the second year in a row. This past weekend the Lady Gamecocks finished fourth at the Woodbridge Collegiate Invitational at Kings Mountain Golf Course in Kings Mountain, N.C., with a three day team total of 943. USC was paced by junior Vikki Valentine who finished the tournament tied for sixth place. Valentine posted rounds of 81-74-76-231. Sophomore Rachel Bates also placed in the top 10 for the Lady Gamecocks. Bates turned in rounds of 76-80-78-234 for a ninth place tie. Senior Aileen Robertson shot rounds of 77-79-81-237 for a 14th place finish, while All-Metro junior Debbie Eckroth finished in 21st with scores of 84-80-77-241. Finishing up for USC was junior Sofia Gervas. Gervas finished the event at 260 after shooting rounds of 88-88-84. The men's golf team will have this weekend off as they prepare for the Virginia Invitational on April 26-28 at Birdwood Golf Course in Charlottesville, Va. In the Gamecocks last event on April 12-14, USC placed fifth in the Ping/American Intercollegiate with two team members finishing in the top 10. Senior Robert Dargan and All-Metro senior Brett Quigley led the way \ for the Gamecocks, as they both finished in the top 10. \ Dargan fired rounds of 70-74-73-217 to give him a third place finish, while Quigley posted rounds of 73-71-74-218 for a tie in sixth place. Next for USC was junior Michael Christie who finished the event in 40th place. Christie shot rounds of 79-74-79?232. Sophomore Carl Paulson turned in rounds of 76-76-82?234, while senior Gene Sellers posted scores of 87-82-77-246. Paulson and Sellers finished 49th and 65th respectively. After the Virginia Invitational, the Gamecocks will take part in their final Metro Conference Golf Championship.
