"Last night, coach Kurt Wilson
took his team to their tenth consecutive
victory."
Wait. Coach Wilson?
Well, not yet but the 6-foot
2-inch USC defensive tackle hopes
so.
"Someday, I'd like to become a
head coach at the big high school
level," Wilson said.
It won't be long before Wilson
gets his shot at coaching. The senior
has been given the okay to
stay on as an assistant coach for
Sparky Woods next season.
"It's really a great honor that
I'm going to be able to work with
the staff we have here. I think
they're a great staff and I'm looking
forward to working for them,"
Wilson said.
For right now, though, Wilson
concentrates on making tackles on
the field. He is sixth on the team
in total tackles and has a teamhigh
five total tackles for a loss.

are doing well overall but need to
work on a few things to get better
defensively.
"It's been a lot of fun this
year ... but we have to work on a
lot of missed tackles. We have a
sound defense. There's a lot of
little stuff we have to work on. We
still have to prove ourselves," Wilson
said.
The Middlesex, NJ. native also
has to prove himself, but to a different

Wilson's parents have attended
every game this year, but he
doesn't get to spend much time
with them.
"It's still a great feeling coming
out of the stadium and your parents
are there," Wilson said. "I really
enjoy it I'm very grateful that
they're are able to come down and
see me."
Wilson said his father has always
"critiqued" his performance
on the field but adds that his dad's

"My father really critiques me
pretty hard ... but it's something
that keeps me on a level. He
doesn't blow me up if I do real
good. If I have a good game, he'll
find the stuff that I do wrong.
Then again, he only wants to make
me better."

Wilson had the entire 1989 season
to not only get better, but to s
get well. He was sidelined for the s
entire year and part of the 1988
season with an ankle injury. Wil- f
son said it was hard to watch from \
the sidelines, but he's glad to be
back.
