Or what if the athlete's wife or girlfriend doesn't want another woman seeing his most private body parts whether it be in a professional situation or not? This would be a much more neutral situation and would also allow the athlete a "cooling down" period before facing the reporter. At least if women reporters are going to be allowed in the locker rooms, then they should be ready to face up to and live with the comments. Athletic facility for USC is beit By The Associated Press South Carolina is still talking about expansion, but now the subject is facilities. University officials interviewed five architectural companies Thursday and will select one to draw a master plan for athletic facilities. Among the priorities are expansion of Williams-Brice Stadium and the construction of a soccer stadium as well as practice facilities for men's and women's basketball. "Basically, we're trying not to get into a situation where we're catching up with people," said Sid Kenyon, director of facility planning. "We want to go ahead and make plans to take us through the next 10 to 15 years and take us to the forefront." Athletic Director King Dixon said the plans have nothing to do with the school becoming the 12th member of the Southeastern Conference. He said a committee was organized more than a year ago to look into facilities planning. Moreover, officials said that,* overall, the school's facilities are equal to or better than most at other schools in the SEC. But Dixon said joining the SEC could speed up the process, particularly the expansion of WilliamsBrice Stadium. "It became obvious once we joined the SEC we needed to expand the stadium," Dixon said. "We don't have enough season tickets to accommodate requests now." Other expansion possibilities include private boxes such as the ones at Clemson and Auburn, a school hall of fame such as the one at Georgia, a permanent souvenir ecock Classifieds 3 Ways To Place A Classified / is form along with your check t< of South Carolina, Columbia, S. ind bring it by the Russell Hoi accepted. /Iastercard or VISA. tion Mail this for ?issues The Ga >old letters PO Box apital letters The Un Ivertisments are free. Watson will be doing his version of expansion plan ng considered shop, large meeting rooms equipped for teleconferences and a ticket office. "If we expand and make the place nicer, and at the same time increase revenue, that would be exceptional," Kenyon said Monday. "Private boxes would be one _ way. Being able to use the facility for teleconferences, renting out spaces, the souvenir store ... all of that could bring in money." Dixon would not speculate on how any possible expansion would be funded. But he envisions a posn:uu MUlt JU1III VCULUIC OCIWCCII U1C U1H" versity and the city of Columbia, as well as funding through corporate sponsorship. As for added revenue from the SEC, Dixon said that would not be the motivating factor behind any plans. Had South Carolina been in the SEC last year, it would have received a minimum of $1.2 million from football and basketball television revenues as well as money from six bowl appearances by conference teams. "I think it would reinforce our , plans," Dixon said. "There are obviously some positives in demographics. But we absolutely need to renovate the stadium, not just because of that" Other potential plans for the stadium and surrounding area include either a tunnel or crosswalk that would enable fans to cross from the Fairgrounds to the stadium without stopping traffic on George Rogers Boulevard. Another possi1 bility is to move the football practice field closer to the stadium. As for other facilities, Dixon envisions an 8,000-to-10,000-seat t soccer stadium, an indoor track facility and separate practice facilities for the basketball programs. Work! Id d The Gamecock, P.
