In that match, the USC doubles team of Stephane Simian and Dave Hopper upset the top-seeded doubles team in the nation, winning 6-4, 7-6. USC followed that match with another upset. The Gamecocks defeated 13th-ranked Alabama 5-1. Senior All-American Stephane Simian, ranked ninth nationally, rallied to knock off Alabama's No.l slayer 3-6, 7-5, 7-5 and improve sis record to 40-8 on the season.
