Sports ? Friday, March 23, 1990 The Gamecock 7 Columnist pays While we hope and pray that our football team wins 7 or 8 games in a season and wish that our basketball team can get a bid to the NCAA Tournament, our women's basketball team cruises into the NCAA "Sweet Sixteen." While many of us laid back on a beach with our favorite girl (or a decent substitute) sipping on a margarita, the Lady Gamecocks were stepping on Bowling Green in the first round of the tourney, 93-50. And while we tripped the proverbial light fantastic on some exotic dance floor, USC took out Northwestern, 76-67 in round two. Last night, the Gamecocks took on the No. 1 seed in the Mideast Region ? the Washington Huskies in Iowa City for the right to advance to the round of eight. Many students and fans may not know anything about USC's feat. Both games were played during spring break. Also, it seems the media is guilty of not counting the women in on their March Madness coverage.
