Through the magic of ESPN ?n.c and Sunday Night NHL, I became ai 1 a convert, diligently following the Philadephia Flyers and Calgary Flames from October to June every in v year. The action was fast. The hit- hrai ting was hard. This was something Just different. I longed to get on those s^al sharp skates on that shiny ice and s^a1 try slap shots, wraparounds, body checks and all the other things that on made hockey so attractive to this Southerner living in a football- Pus crazy world. ^ev I got my chance last semester, John Benjamin, a "buddy o' a s' mine," as he would say, from ^ Bethesda, Md., works part time at my a local ice rink, a real rarity in South Carolina.
