Long distance worth it, stud* By L.S. LICHTENFELD Staff Writer So, it's Valentine's Day and you're going to get cozy with your sweetheart. You have something special planned, and Columbia is exploding with beauty and romance, just for you. Weil, just remember tnere are people who are less fortunate than you. These people have to spend Valentine's Day (and night) alone, without their loved one. They are victims of circumstance, they are "Long Distance Lovers." So why do they do it, and how do they do it? How do you keep a relationship over a distance? Distance makes the heart grow fonder . . . and the phone bill grow uglier. There are many ways to approach a long distance romance. "We talk to one another as often as possible, write a lot of letters and occasionally visit each other," University of Colorado freshman Reena Rubinstein said. She was visiting her sweetheart at USC last weekend. A long distance relationship is hard to maintain. There is usually an emotional and physical desire to be with your loved one, and sometimes that desire can be painful. So why do people put themselves through all this pain? "It makes the time we spend together that much more special," USC student Laura Woods said. "If I were around him all the time, we wouldn't be as happy when we saw one another. I don't mean we would not get along. It just would not be as special." Valentine's gii r? i a r* i rrom Deautirui By The Associated Press Association. Oh, St. Valentine!
