Miami, home of the Heat, will be serving 1 a delectable hoops du jours this weekend hosts of the 1990 NBA All-Star Weekend. Miami will have the actual All-Star game f you on Sunday afternoon, but if you'd like ; appetizer, I highly recommend you try All-St Saturday which will be offered on prime tin this year for your added enjoyment. It's fun watch. They'll bring out the 3-point or Long Di tance Shootout for you next. This year Michael Jordan will be making 1 first appearance in the event. I hope he wir mainly because I'll enjoy finding out what "1 only weakness" is next. Play-by-Play man: "You know Bob, Jord; has had a tough time lately on those las second, Hail-Mary shots." Bob the Color Analyst: "Well, let's be hone about it, I mean we've had a chance to do se eral Bulls games in the last few weeks, ai quite frankly, we've seen Jordan throw up couple of real bricks from, I don't know, 75 80 feet. I guess he's human after all." But I digress. By the way, you didn't think was going to keep up that waiter bit, did you? Jordan qualified for the 3-point shooto based on his percentage from tri fecta land th far this season, lest you question his present Golf is the man's hobby. Larry Bird will return to launch his treys. I had previously been the only player ever to w the event, but his foot injury kept him fro competing last year. Billy Thompson of the Heat will get his chance to thrill the hometown fans, and Charlotte's Rex Chapman will try to give the Hornets something to brag about this year. Now that I've told you about these guys, you can forget about them all. The NBA announced Wednesday that Dominique Wilkins of Atlanta is a late entry in the contest, so put your money on The Human Highlight Film if you're smart, i, All of that should hold you over until Sunday when Miami will bring out the main course ? - the NBA All-Star Game. See the circus on Saturday afternoon because I you'll want to reserve Sunday for 'The Greatest i. Show Above Earth'. For the East squad, the faces should be familiar. Isiah Thomas and Michael Jordan will start in the backcourt. At center, enjoying perhaps his finest season (as you're likely to hear) will ; be Patrick Ewing. The starting forwards are Larry Bird and Charles Barkley. t The Western Conference All-Star squad will r feature three members of the Los Angeles Lak} ers in the starting lineup, but only two who der serve to be there. Magic Johnson and James Worthy will be s starting at the guard and forward spots as they should be. A.C. Green will start ahead of Karl t Malone which is a joke. Malone obviously doesn't think it's too funny though. He scored f 61 points the night he learned he wouldn't be 1 starting. At any rate, John Stockton and Akeem Olaju> won will start at the other guard and center j spots as they should be. Except for Green, I thought the fans were on the money with their selections. The game will be on CBS. Check 1 your local listings, as they say, for-the start t time. It's a lot to have to indulge in one weekend, I / know, but don't feel guilty.
